Abstract

The controlled single-phase bridge, for electric vehicles, operates in one or two quadrant modes and requires no commutating thyristors. The power factor is optimised using only a small number of components. m diodes (nl.1 etc.) are connected in series with m thyristors (nl etc.) on the side of the bridge containing the (m-1) ac sources (UN etc.). The thyristors are connected to one dc pole. The common electrodes of the thyristors and the diodes are connected together over commutating capacitors (C1 etc.). (m>=2). When m = 2, the simplest case results - in which the rectifiers may be diodes or thyristors to give either a half or fully controlled single-phase bridge.
