Abstract

1447367 Water heater; steam generator STONE-PLATT CRAWLEY Ltd 30 Nov 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58700/72 Heading F4A A water heater or steam generator comprises a burner 27 disposed above and supported by a heat exchanger assembly 7, and a casing 39 housing the heat exchanger assembly. The heat exchanger assembly consists of either four nesting coil packs or a battery of straight vertical tubes connected to top and bottom annular header tanks. The heat exchanger assembly may be exposed, see left hand side of Fig. 1, by removing wall sections 38 and sliding the cylindrical casing 39 from its operative position, in which the casing is located against upper and lower seals 41, to its lowered position, in which the casing rests against base 12. To expose a greater length of coil pack, the casing can be made into two telescoping sections. In operation air is drawn by a fan 5 through an annular grating 35 having filter material 36 into a collectbox 3. The air is then passed to the burner via chamber 14, annulus 37 and transfer ducts 24. In a further embodiment the transfer ducts are formed from an initially circular-sectioned tube which is progressively flattened as it is passed from the outside to the inside wall of the flue. The exhaust gases pass through the heat exchanger assembly to the flue exit duct 1.
