Abstract

144,724. Kennedy, J. E. March 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Open-hearth furnaces.-Pulverulent fuel is supplied under pressure from nozzles N to openended elongated preliminary combustion chambers having no internal obstruction and parallel refractory walls; the fuel nozzles being centrally disposed and arranged to project into the combustion chamber, whereby attrition of the furnace walls is avoided. The air for combustion is induced by the fuel and by the chimney draught. Ashes &c. are deposited in chambers a located beyond the inner ends of the combustion chamber.
