Abstract

1443872 Pipe couplings BRENNSTOFFINSTITUT FREIBERG 15 Jan 1974 [15 Jan 1973 14 May 1973] 01805/74 Heading F2G Hardenable material 7, introduced through a hole in socket 1, is secured by adhesion and/or interlocking formations against being blown out of the gap 5 by high pipe-line pressure. The gap 5 is provided to accommodate misalignment between pipe sections and is too great to be securely spanned by the sealing ring 4 on its own. When interlocking formations are used to prevent relative longitudinal movement of the pipe sections, material 5 may be of synthetic resin reinforced with glass fibres. Alternatively, spigot 2 may be freed for longitudinal movement by providing a lip 4<SP>11</SP> extending from sealing ring 4<SP>1</SP> almost to sealing ring 3. In another form the spigot is coated with a releasing agent (8, Fig. 2, not shown).
