Abstract

1443646 Sound absorbing panels; suspended ceilings G D MAIBACH 7 March 1974 [20 March 1973] 10373/74 Headings E1B E1J and E1W The shells of sound absorbing panels for forming walls, ceilings suspended ceilings or doors have apertures 12, 12' and 12" on at least 3, and preferably 5 faces, the apertures receiving dowel like connecting elements 13 for connecting the panels to form walls and ceilings. The panels which are made of plastics or metal have an apertured sound absorbing front wall 3 backed by low density e.g. rock wool panel 28 and a sound reflecting rear wall backed by a plaster panel 34. The connecting elements are moulded in synthetic plastics and may have saw-toothed profile and/ or may be slotted and receive an expanding mandrel in a through passage. The apertures in the side faces may be formed by the ends of tubes passing through the panels, and one tube or bracing rods within several tubes may pass through several panels. The panel assemblies may be additionally braced by fish plates which have apertures through which the connecting elements or tubes pass. The fish plates may also have apertures receiving hooks for suspending the panels from hooks suspended from a structural ceiling. Fillets 11 of insulating material are received in channels 9 and 10 in the edges of adjacent elements. In a ceiling these channels may receive load bearing stiffening members. The panels may also be suspended from a ceiling by engaging modified connecting elements 13 in channels fixed to the ceiling. A window frame for double glazing may be mounted in the wall using connecting elements 13. A door may be assembled from a plurality of the panels interconnected by through-passing tubes and held together by fish plates.
