Abstract

1443369 Lithographic plate coating composition EASTMAN KODAK CO 21 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 59417/73 Heading G2C A composition, for use in preparing a lithographic plate which may comprise an anodized aluminium support, comprises an organic solvent in which are dissolved either a radiation-sensitive and/or sensitized polymer or a photopolymerizable composition and a compound of Mg, Sr, Ba, Zn, Cd, Al, Zr, Mn or Co which is the acetate, acetylacetonate, benzoate, thiobenzoate, gluconate, lactate or salicylate. The support may be subbed with a hydrophilic cellulosic compound. The subbing layer may contain a water-soluble salt of Zn, Ca, Mg, Ba, Sr, Co or Mn (see Application 59418/73). The radiation-sensitive polymer may be a polycarboxylate or polycarbonate containing the radiation-sensitive group -CH=CH-CO- as an integral part of the polymer backbone. The polymer may be azide sensitized or contain quinone diazide groups. The light-sensitive polymer may contain a light-sensitive unsaturated cyclic group which is a 5-6 membered ethylenically unsaturated carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring free of exocyclic double bonds and fused to an aromatic benzene type ring. (Specification 1317818.) The polymer composition may be negative or positive working and may be overcoated with a radiation sensitive coating e.g. silver halide (see Example 10 and 11).
