772,112. Coated paper. WARREN CO., S. D. July 4, 1955, No. 19270/55. Class 96. [Also in Group XVI] A planographic printing plate comprises a paper-base and a coating thereon containing finely divided inert mineral pigment, a watersoluble, water-stable acetate or formate of calcium, strontium, barium, cadmium, zinc and bivalent copper, nickel, cobalt, iron, lead, manganese, or mercury and an insolubilized hydrophilic adhesive which is not coagulated by the salt, the weight of which salt is from 5-40per cent of the total weight of the coating. The coating consists of the evaporation residue of the salt, an adhesive of starch, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium cellulose sulphate carboxymethyl cellulose or hydroxyethyl cellulose, and a watersoluble partially condensed urea-aldehyde, or melamine-aldehyde resin for rendering the coating water-insoluble when dried by heat. In an example about 10 pounds, dry weight, per ream of a mixture of 100 parts by weight of paper-coating clay, 40 of starch, 40 of zinc acetate, 14 of melamine-formaldehyde condensate, 3.5 of monochloracetic acid (to control the pH value) and 25 of proponal (foam dispersant) together with water to make the solid content about 30 per cent was applied to paper, which was then dried, supercalendered and inscribed with a typewritten image.
