Abstract

1444447 Photographic light-sensitive, heatdevelopable materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 31 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 04668/74 Heading G2C Photographic, light-sensitive, heat-developable silver halide materials contain (a) an organic silver salt e.g. silver behenate, (b) a light-sensitive silver halide, or a compound which forms such silver halide by reaction with the organic silver salt, present in an amount to catalyse reduction of the organic silver salt by a reducing agent when the halide has been exposed to light, (c) the reducing agent, (d) an optional binder and (e) as a sensitizer a compound of one of the following formulae:- where Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>3</SP> are each =O or =N#R 20 R 21 X#; Z<SP>2</SP> is -OM or -NR<SP>22</SP> R<SP>23</SP>; Ar<SP>1</SP>, Ar<SP>2</SP>, Ar<SP>3</SP>, Ar<SP>4</SP> and Ar<SP>5</SP> are each substituted or unsubstituted aryl; R<SP>20</SP>, R<SP>21</SP>, R<SP>22</SP> and R<SP>23</SP> are each substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl groups; X- is an anion and M is H, alkali-metal, alkaline-earth metal or NH 4 ; and wherein each nucleus of the Formulae may contain one or more additional substituents; and wherein (i) in Formula I, (a) when Z<SP>1</SP> is = O, Z<SP>2</SP> is -OM, and Ar<SP>1</SP> does not contain a halogen substituent, the nucleus contains two halogen atoms as substituents and (b) Ar<SP>1</SP> contains at least one SO 3 M or COOM substituent, (ii) in Formulae II and III at least one of Ar<SP>2</SP> and Ar<SP>3</SP> and at least one of Ar<SP>4</SP> and Ar<SP>5</SP> each contains at least one SO 3 M or COOM substituent, and (iii) in Formula IV the nucleus or a substituent of the nucleus carries at least one SO 3 M or COOM substituent. The material may have a polymer top-coat layer and some of the sensitizers may be optically sensitizing.
