Abstract

1276727 Heat-transparentisable antihalation layers MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 28 May 1969 [29 May 1968] 27041/69 Heading G2C A sheet material for making visible records of light-images comprises a clear and lighttransmissive support, a light transmissive photo-sensitive layer which records said lightimages and a light-absorptive heat-bleachable (which term covers both the case where the colour stratum becomes visibly clear and transparent upon heating or transmissive of certain wavelengths upon heating) coloured layer which minimises halation of said photo-sensitive layer which may be a silver halide emulsion layer, which may be heat-developable. The coloured layer may be heat-bleached at the same time as heat development of the photo-sensitive layer is carried out. The coloured layer and the photosensitive layer may be in face-to-face contact or the support may lie between them. The coloured layer may be the support (see Example 2). The coloured layer may contain as colour forming components N- (bis(4-dimethylaminophenyl)- methyl) pyrrolidine and salicylic acid (Ex 1), or N-(nbutyl)-N<SP>1</SP>-(bis-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-methylene) urea and dichloromaleic acid (Ex 6), or may comprise 4, 4<SP>1</SP>-methylenebis-N,N-dimethylaniline, 87:13 vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer and polyvinylacetate which when coated is colourless and when exposed to an ionizing radiation converts to a cyan colour (Ex 3), 2, 5-dimethoxy -4-(4- methylphenyl)-thio-benzenediazonium fluoborate (yellow dye) in polyvinyl alcohol (Ex 8) or opalescent crystalline potassium chloride bearing a thin coating of a transparent polyester resin which renders the sheet transparent and protects the crystals, which on exposure to x-rays becomes blue-violet in colour (Ex 9). In Example 5 a thin coating of hexadecyldimethylamine and ethyl cellulose is coated over the coloured layer on the support.
