1442943 Fuel composition TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 14 Oct 1974 44481/74 Heading C5G A motor fuel composition comprises a hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range from 0À01-0À25 vol. per cent based on the composition of a phenol represented by the Formula I in which a is 1 or 2, A is a lower aliphatic radical having from 1-4 carbon atoms, b is 0 or 1 and R is a substantially saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having an average molecular weight of 500 to 3500. The above phenol may be prepared from various phenols, e.g. phenol itself, cresol, hydroquinone and C 1 -C 4 alkyl phenols and aliphatic hydrocarbons both natural and synthetic (many listed). The examples describe the preparation of phenols prepared from phenol itself and polypropylene having an average molecular weight of 850 and the use of these phenols in gasoline and isooctane is illustrated. The base fuel may contain antiknock compounds (e.g. tetralkyl lead), ethylene chloride - ethylene bromide scavengers, anti-icing additives, corrosion inhibitors and dyes.
