Abstract

1440261 Lubricants EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 1 Feb 1974 [1 Feb 1973] 5086/73 Heading C5F A composition comprises a lubricating oil, a detergent or dispersant additive and a mixture of at least two carboxylic acids of which one has a melting point of at least 20‹ C. and not more than 30 carbon atoms per molecule and the other melts below 20‹ C., the weight ratio of low-melting to high-melting acid being between 1À5 and 8. The base oil may be animal, vegetable, mineral, oxidized mineral oil or synthetic; examples of each are listed, as also are examples of detergent additives and carboxylic acids. The compositions are suitable for use as lubricants in wet braking systems, and may also contain other additives, some of which are listed.
