Abstract

1359116 Lubricant composition ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 19 Oct 1972 [8 Feb 1972] 5746/72 Heading C5F A lubricating composition contains a minor amount of N alkyl, N aryl naphthylamine in which the alkyl group contain 1-10 C atoms and has no branching adjacent the N atom. Preferably the naphthylamine has the formula e.g. N-methyl N-(t-octyl phenyl)- #-naphthylamine where R 1 =H or alkyl, and R 2 =H or C 1 -C 9 alkyl. A compound of the formula where R 3 =H or alkyl, e.g. N-(t-octyl phenyl)-#- naphthylamine may also be included. The lubricating oil can be mineral, animal, fish, vegetable or synthetic, e.g. synthetic ester oils, including complex esters, ether-esters and polyesters. The exemplified ester oils are prepared by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with a mono and/or dicarboxylic acid. Conventional additives are also specified.
