Abstract

1439236 End face shaft seals SOC INTERNATIONALE DE MECANIQUE INDUSTRIELLE SA 4 Sept 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 41567/73 Heading F2B A seal between a fixed and a rotating member of the kind comprising a substantially U-section diaphragm, one arm of which is fixed to one member and the other arm carrying a sealing ring abutting the other member, has the diaphragm reinforced by a radially inwardly extending portion 5 of an embedded ring, the portion backing up the diaphragm against the pressure of the medium being sealed off. To produce a non-rotatable connection between the diaphragm and the sealing ring 8, some embodiments employ integral studs 15 on the diaphragm entering holes 16 in the ring 8. The holes may be blind, Fig. 5, or through, Fig. 3 (not shown) and Fig. 4. A ring 17, Fig. 6, may limit axial deformation of the diaphragm.
