Abstract

1437670 Current collectors BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 13 May 1974 [15 Dray 1973] 20985/74 Heading B7L A current collector 5 comprises a positioning device such as a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 2 and piston 14 operatively connected between a main frame 1 and arms supporting contact shoes 9 to position the shoes in collecting and non-collecting positions on actuation of the device, and a damper 19 operatively connected between a rod 16 of the piston 14 and the arms supporting the shoes 9 so as to offer no damping to raising and lowering of the shoes relative to the frame 1 resulting from actuation of the positioning device but to damp all other such relative movement. The free end of the damper 19 is articulated or one end of a drive lever 20 which is fast with a main arm 4 of a system of articulated arms 4, 6, 23 by which the shoes 9 are carried, the lever 20 and arm 4 being articulated on the frame 1 at a bearing 3. A spring 11 acting between the frame 1 and the other end of the lever 20 urges the shoes 9 normally into contact with a catenary 10 and the lever 20 also carries a roller 21 slidable along a slot 18 in a a link plate 17 carried by the rod 16. Thus when the shoes 9 are raised or lowered by the cylinder 2, the damper 19 is moved as a whole and exerts no damping force, but fluctuations occurring while the shoes are in collecting position are permitted subject to damping by movement of the roller 21 in the slot 18. In a modified form, Fig. 2 (not shown), the plate 17 is enlarged to receive the damper 19 within the slot 18.
