Abstract

A lifting device for raising and lowering a movable member relative to a fixed member comprises at least one pair of arms (8a, 8b) extending between a movable member (3) e.g. a tail platform of a vehicle, and a fixed member (1) e.g. the vehicle chassis and forming therebetween a parallel linkage, and actuating means (15), for example hydraulic means, such as one or more hydraulic rams (15), for causing rotation of one arm (8b) of said linkage and thereby adjusting the angles of the parallelogram defined by the parallel linkage. Such rotation of one arm causes consequential movement of the other arm and results in the movable member being raised or lowered with respect to the fixed member depending on the direction of rotation. <IMAGE>
