Abstract
143,729. Glenn, S. L. June 6, 1919. Rod couplings.-A coupling for connecting the " rodding " used for operating railway switch points and the like consists of a sleeve of standard pipe 3, Fig. 1, of larger bore than the pipes 1, 2 to be connected. The part 3 is of a diameter large enough to be an easy fit on the main portion of the pipe 2, the other part 3<a> being swaged down to make a good fit on the end of the pipe 1, to which it is secured by rivets 4 arranged to lie in different longitudinal planes of the pipe. In a modification, the portion 3<a> is welded to the pipe 1. According to alternative constructions, the sleeve 3 is of the same bore throughout, and is secured to the pipe 1 by a single flat rivet 6, Fig. 5, or by a cotter 7, Fig. 6, driven through slots in the pipes 1, 3 and having its lower end 7<a> twisted through 90 degrees. The connexion of the socket portion of the pipe 3 to the adjacent length of " rodding " is in every case made in the usual way by means of a cotter 5.
