1437270 Photographic antistatic layers EASTMAN KODAK CO 22 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24413/73 Heading G2C [Also in Division C7] A photographic material comprises an electrically insulating support e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate coated with, in order, (i) a binderless, optically dense, electrically conductive antistatic metal layer having a resistance less than 10<SP>12</SP> ohms per square capable of oxidation to a less optically dense state e.g. a layer of Ag, Al, Bi, Mn or Cu; (ii) a binderless protective metal halide layer capable of retarding the oxidation of the electrically conductive layer but permeable or soluble in aqueous photographic processing solutions e.g. MgF 2 , CeF 3 , CaF 2 , BaF 2 and Na 3 AlF 6 ; and (iii) a radiation-sensitive layer e.g. a gelatine silver halide emulsion layer. A second protective layer of metal halide as above or of an inorganic oxide e.g. an oxide of Si, Al, Mg, Ti, Ta or a borosilicon oxide, may be present between the support and the electrically conductive layer. The antistatic layer system comprising the conductive layer and the protective layer are removed or rendered substantially transparent on processing of the photographic material in the normal processing solutions.
