Development of silver halide layers is effected in the presence of a nucleic acid as antifoggant. The nucleic acid is preferably ribonucleic acid (RNA) or desoxynucleic acid (DNA) and may be incorporated in the silver halide layer or a layer contiguous thereto, or in the developer.
