Abstract

143,692. Thornely, E. W. April 23, 1919. Ventilating-shafts.-The flue holes in concrete and similar flue blocks are formed by pipes of fire-clay or other suitable material which are cast in. The Figures show typical shapes, the rectangular blocks being used for straight portions of flues, and those of wedge shape for forming bends. The height of the blocks is chosen to bond with courses of concrete blocks or multiple courses of bricks, shallow blocks being employed to make up any desire flue length. Blocks of greater horizontal area form corbels to support floors &c., or are used for chimney cappings. Fig. 13 shows a block having a. tapering flue opening, which is used immediately over the fireplace.
