Abstract

Fire-places; flues.-To promote draught in fire-places, the flue a is formed narrow from front to back, and uprights d' of metal or fire-clay and shaped as shown, are placed at each side of the grate and form side flues c, which taper towards and terminate at the top of a slab of fire-clay g extending between the uprights. A soot door may be provided at h, and a loose fire-clay block f may be placed at the back of the grate. When the grate is below the level of the hearth, a back d may be arranged as shown in Fig. 1.
