Abstract

404,985. Concrete blocks for chimneys. TAIT, L., Victoria Road, Blandford, Dorset. July 26, 1932, No. 21008. [Classes 25 and 87 (i).] Concrete blocks a for the construction of chimneys are cast with a square flue opening b each side of which is of unit brick length. In the case of blocks having a single flue opening, Fig. 1, two opposite walls are half a brick length or 4¢" in thickness, one of the other sides being either 4¢" or 2“" and the fourth side is recessed as at d to form joggles for bonding purposes, leaving a wall of 2“" in thickness. In the case of a block having two or more flue openings, Fig. 4, the walls c between the flues are 4¢" thick. The sides of the blocks and flue openings therein may be vertical, for the construction of vertical flues, or oblique for the construction of sloping flues. The blocks are of a depth equal to the depth of two or three bricks. Preferably the aggregates used in making the blocks are in the proportions of five parts slag or granite, two parts of sand and one part of rapid hardening cement. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Speciftcations 26205/98, 17430/09, 143,692, 162,185, 281,392, [all in Class 25], and 362,569.
