Blocks, special shapes of.-Bricks for chimneys and flues are provided round the edge of the flue opening with an upstanding ridge or collar 2, Fig. 1, which fits into a corresponding shallower recess in the brick in the course above, so that mortar-receiving grooves 3 are left when the blocks are assembled while the flue opening is formed by closely abutting portions without mortar joints. Fig. 3 shows a modified form in which individual bricks form a segment of the flue, and are bevelled away from their inner meeting edges to form spaces 8 filled with mortar with or without metal reinforcement. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which segmental bricks are made T-shaped to interlock with one another as shown. The application of the invention to chimneys with multiple flues also is described and illustrated.
