Abstract

1436506 Fibrillating air nozzle QUAKER OATS CO 20 Nov 1974 [12 June 1974] 50365/74 Heading B5B The die 11 comprises an inner housing 12, heating means 13 and gas injection means 16 and 16<SP>1</SP>. At each end of 12 is an opening the upper opening acting as an inlet 14 and the lower opening as an outlet 15, 14 being connected to a means to blend a food or plastic material. Hot extrudate is forced through 12 heated by 13, e.g. a steam jacket, and air is injected through 16 and 16<SP>1</SP> so that the extrudate undergoes cooling and fibrillation, 16 and 16<SP>1</SP> are provided with protusions, e.g. A and A<SP>1</SP> located so that air passing through them will impinge upon the hot extrudate at an angle of 45 degrees to the flow of that extrudate.
