Abstract

1435918 Road vehicle luminous signals LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 4 May 1973 [20 May 1972] 23836/72 Heading G4Q In a vehicle lighting system which includes a dimming resistor 18 automatically connected in series with stop lamps 19, 21 when lighting switch 12 is on (by relay 33 opening contact 34) means is operable when the dimming resistor is in use for passing a current through the stop lamps insufficient to illuminate them. Thus the pre-heating of the stop lamps affords instant illumination when stop lamp switch 17 closes thereby catering for fast traffic. In Fig. 1 the means is a resistor 41. It is arranged that current flow through resistor 41 to side and tail lamps 13, 14, 15, 16 when switch 17 is closed is not sufficient to illuminate them. The resistor may be incorporated in the relay unit. A resistor 37 ensures that total current flowing in flasher unit 22 is constant. In a modification two resistors (41a, 416) are utilized for the preheating, Fig. 2 (not shown).
