Abstract

1417124 Road traffic signals on vehicles CIBIE PROJECTEURS 6 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 56267/72 Heading G4Q A motor vehicle light unit, capable of being connected to a vehicle as a unitary assembly, includes a rear light 3, a flashing light 1, e.g. for indicating change of direction, and a brake light 2, each light having a supply circuit and the circuit for the rear light incorporating means for dimming the flashing light and the brake light when the rear light is energized. The unit may comprise a case containing all the lights and having terminals 101, 102, 103, one for each circuit. The dimming means may comprise a relay having a coil 31 which when energized, e.g. by switching on the rear light 3, opens contacts 13, 23 to introduce dimming resistors 11, 21 and compensating resistor 17. In Fig. 2 (not shown), an additional terminal (104) enables light 3 to be operated in foggy conditions without dimming lights 1 and 2, and in Fig. 3 (not shown), an additional fog light (4) is provided. The light sources 3 and (4) may be filaments of a twinfilament lamp.
