1450769 Road-vehicle signalling circuits LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 12 Oct 1973 [23 Dec 1972] 59585/72 Heading G4Q In a vehicle lighting system including a dimming resistor 19 in series with a stop lamp 21 a further resistor 18 is included, and transistor means sensitive to the potential across the further resistor short-circuits the dimming resistor until the stop lamp is hot; thus delay in stop lamp illumination, due to the dimming resistor, is avoided. In one embodiment transistor 41 is turned on when stop lamp switch 17 closes and thereby short-circuits resistors 18, 19; as stop lamps 21, 22 heat up the potential across resistor 18 falls and the transistor turns off. In a modification a further transistor (42 Fig. 2, not shown) is turned on when transistor 41 turns on, to short-circuit resistor 19. The circuit includes a flasher 23 and associated direction-indicator lamps 25, 26, 27, 28; a resistor 39 to ensure constant flashing rate whether or not dimming resistors 29, 31 are in circuit; and a relay coil 34, energizes when vehicle lighting switch 12 is closed, for operating contacts 36, 37, 38.
