Abstract

1405632 Signalling apparatus on vehicles WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE KG HUECK & CO 14 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52566/72 Heading G4Q A road-vehicle lighting system comprises a flasher system (for indicating turns or emergencies) and a main light system, the flasher system including a flasher unit BG, a relay TN and flasher lamps LRv, LRh, LLv, LLh, the relay being operable, in dependence upon the state of the main light system, to place resistances R1-R4 in series with some of the flasher lamps, one resistance of each pair being shunted by a capacitor C1 or C2. At night, when a switch LS is closed to light head- or parking-lights, the relay is energized to cause its normally closed contacts a, b and c to open. The current paths to rear flasher lamps LRh and LLh then comprise the resistors and capacitors R1-R4 and C1, C2. The current paths to the front flasher lamps LRv, LLv remain direct to the flasher switch FS and generator BG. The charging of the capacitors C1, C2, when current is passed, simulates the switch-on current surge experienced during periods when the relay contacts are closed so as not to permit the intensity reduction to affect flash frequency. The generator BG may comprise a hot-wire or bimetal flasher control, and can be used to indicate any lamp failure. Relay contacts c, when open, connect resistance R5 in series with a brake light BL to dim the latter. The flasher and brake lights can be on a trailer.
