Abstract
1435740 Klystrons NIPPON ELECTRIC CO Ltd 25 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49750/73 Heading H1D In a klystron having an input resonator circuit 16, at least one first floating resonator circuit 21, at least one second floating resonator circuit-two, 26 and 31, as shown-and an output resonator circuit 36, the conversion efficiency is increased by arranging that the input circuit has a Q value at least equal to that of the first floating resonator circuits and a resonant frequency adjacent the lowest frequency of the passband; the first floating resonator circuits have a resonant frequency adjacent the highest frequency of the passband; and the second floating resonator circuits have a resonant frequency higher than the highest frequency of the passband, and higher than the resonant frequency of the first floating resonator circuits. All the resonator circuits are tunable by plungers, e.g. 18, and the Q of the first resonator circuit 21 is adjustable by connection of a resistor to the coupling loop 24. As described, the Q values of the successive resonators of Fig. 1 are 195, 140, 650, 650, and 5. The resonators may be of extended interaction type, e.g. of coupled cavity construction.
