Abstract

1434476 Load spreaders J F ARCHER 3 May 1974 [10 May 1973] 19639/74 Heading B8H A load spreader comprises a beam formed of channel members 1, 2 held in spaced, parallel relation by a plate 5 and load support carriages movable along the beam. Each carriage is formed of a pair of spaced, parallel plates 11 having lugs 11a, 11b and a shaft 10 extending between the plates to suspend a hook 8. In use the spacing of the carriages is adjusted to suit the load to be handled and upon application of the load to the hooks the lugs of the respective carriages are forced against the flanges of the channel members to lock the carriage against movement along the beam. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a suspension loop (3) for the beam is connected to the shafts (16) on the carriages and load engaging devices separate from the carriages are provided on the beam.
