Abstract

1,135,182. Chain slings. M. F. BARNES. 20 Dec., 1965 [18 Sept., 1964], No. 38261/64. Heading B8H. In a chain sling which is suspended from a lifting hook by a ring 1 the chain may be supported at any point along its length by moving it axially through an orifice 6 and lowering a selected link into a slot 5. Projections 9 support the link 2 along the whole of one side. Fig. 4, (not shown), illustrates a ring with two chain receiving slots which permits the length of both limbs of the suspended chain to be adjusted individually. Fig. 5 (not shown), shows an alternative construction in which the supporting link lies horizontally on supports 16 two sets of which may be provided so that the length of both portions of the chain may be adjusted. Fig. 8, (not shown), illustrates a further embodiment. Two covering plates each with one or two keyhole-shaped apertures may be freely suspended from a hook-engaging link thus providing for individual adjustment of either one chain or two.
