Abstract

1291410 Boring earth etc; pile drivers FRU-EHAUF CORP 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970] 20854/71 Addition to 1260328 Headings E1F and E1H [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for handling a spud 116, pole, pile or like elongated object comprises grippers 114, 114' to engage the object, a support 111 encircling the object, links 110 connecting the support 111 and the grippers and adapted to release the grippers when lifting force is applied to the support 111, a support 112 encircling the object, links 118 connecting the support 112 and the grippers to engage the grippers with the object when lifting force is applied to the support 112, and means 145 for transferring the lifting force from the support 111 to the support 112, and from the support 112 to the support 111. The apparatus is supported by cables 141, 141' attached to the means 145, 145' which each comprise a cylinder 58 fixed to the support 112, a piston 64, a piston rod 146, and a stop 169 on the piston rod for engagement with the support 111. The pressures in the compartments 56 of the cylinders are reduced to engage the stop with the support 111 to transfer the lifting force to the support 111 and free the spud.
