Abstract
1434254 Treating anodized aluminium; aluminuim alloys SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 26 Oct 1973 [28 Oct 1972] 49993/73 Headings C7A and C7B [Also in Division B2] Wear and corrosion resistance of an Al metal or alloy material having an anodic oxide film on its surface are improved by dipping it into a liquid containing insoluble particles of average diameter 20 microns or less e.g. of TiO 2 , C, MoS 2 , Al 2 O 3 , Si 3 N 4 or SiC and subjecting to ultrasonic wave treatment, e.g. of frequency 20 to 500 KHz for 5 to 20 minutes, to introduce the particles into the anodic oxide film. Anodizing may be effected in an aqueous electrolyte containing by weight 15% naphthalene-disulphonic acid and 20% sulphuric acid. The liquid containing the particles may be water (with a surfactant) or ethyl alcohol. The Al material may be used as bearings or piston cylinders. Al alloys specified are: (1) 4À1% Cu, 0À70% Si, 0À20% Zn, 0À65% Mg, 0À08% Cr, 0À90% Fe and balance Al; (2) 1À11% Cu, 11À38% Si, 0À01% Zn, 0À87% Mg, 0À20% Fe, 0À01% Mn, 1À57% Ni, 0À07% Ti, balance Al; (3) 3À85% Cu, 8À29% Si, 0À14% Fe, 0À42% Mn, 0À17% Ti, balance Al; (4) 4À49% Cu, 0À10% Si, 0À20% Mg, 0À10% Fe, 0À02% Mn, 0À10% Ti, balance Al; (5) 1À6% Cu, 0À40% Si, 5À9% Zn, 2À50% Mg, 0À25% Mn, 0À35% Cr, 0À50% Fe, 0À15% Ni, balance Al; (6) 0À23% Cu, 0À70% Si, 1À10% Mg, 0À19% Cr, 0À20% Fe, balance Al.
