Abstract

1443672 Electro-depositing copper-indium alloy CENTRE STEPHANOIS DE RECHERCHES MECANIQUES HYDROMECANIQUE ET FROTTEMENT 12 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 39888/74 Headings C7A and C7B Surfaces of aluminium (alloys) are rendered wear resistant by electro-depositing thereon a Cu-In alloy layer in an alkaline aqueous solution containing Cu<SP>+</SP> ions and In<SP>3+</SP> ions e.g. in a weight ratio of In to Cu metal of between 2 and 8, alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal cyanide e.g. between 1À1 and 1À8 g/g Cu, alkali metal gluconate e.g. at least 0À5 g/g In, gluconic and oxalic acids e.g. between 1 and 10 mg/l, the pH preferably being maintained between 12 and 14 e.g. by the alkali metal hydroxide and the cathodic CD preferably being between 3 and 8 A/dm<SP>2</SP>; followed by diffusion heat-treatment at between 120‹ and 155‹C preferably in air for between 2 and 6 hours. Initially the Al may be degreased and pickled. Specification 1234192 is referred to.
