Feeding webs. - Apparatus for transversely stretching and guiding fabrics in bleaching, dyeing, finishing, and other machines consists of a set of rollers at each edge of the fabric, the rollers in each set being adjustable with respect to each other to vary the sinuosity of the path of the fabric, and each set of rollers being adjustable angularly with respect to the path of the fabric. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, each set of rollers 2 comprises three upper and two lower rollers adjustably mounted in vertical and horizontal slots d, e respectively in brackets 3 which are angularly adjustable by bolts 7 on supports 4 which are carried by a cross-rod 6 and are adjustable towards and away from each other by means of a right and left handed screwed rod 5. In another form, Fig. 9, the angular adjustment of the brackets 3 is effected simultaneously by worms 9 on a cross-shaft engaging toothed quadrants 3<a> formed upon the brackets. One or more of the rollers 2 may be positively driven from a suitable shaft 12 of the machine by bevel-gears g, h which drive a cross-shaft 13 to which is splined bevel-gears meshing with bevel-gears on the pivot stud 7<a> of the brackets 3, the studs 7a driving by bevel-gears 16, 17 one of the rollers 2, to which other rollers 2 may be geared. In another form, Figs. 4 and 6, in which only four rollers 2 are employed in each set, the two outer rollers are adjustable in vertical slots d<1> in the bracket 3, and the two inner rollers 2 are carried by a plate 20 rotatably mounted in the bracket 3 and operated by a worm 22 and worm-wheel 21 so as to vary the sinuosity of the path of the fabric, the angular adjustment of the bracket 3 on the support 4 being effected also by a worm 24 and worm-wheel 23.
