Abstract

143,312. Rhein, M. L. Feb. 19, 1919. Dentifrices.-A dentifrice contains an acid salt, such as potassium bitartrate or acid sodium citrate, an alkaline salt which reacts with the.acid salt in the presence of moisture to produce carbon dioxide, a mild abrasive, and soap. The mixture is made up in the form of a powder or paste, the paste being made by means of glycerine or a concentrated gummy substance, sucn as gum arabic, which is practically free from water. A preferred example contains 34 lb. of precipitated chalk, 4 lb. each of sodium bicarbonate and oleate, 8 lb. of pottasium bitartrate, 10 grains of saccharine and flavouring-agents, for instance 18 oz. of oil of gaultheria and 9 oz. of oil of peppermint.
