Abstract

143,269. Jewell, W. M. May 15, 1919, [Convention date]. Chlorine, obtaining; pressure different from atmospheric.-A pressure-regulating device for chlorine gas passing from electrolytic producing- cells, comprises two communicating chambers 7, 9 containing a liquid, such as sulphuric acid 8 protected by an oil film 8<a>, the chamber 9 having inlet and discharge connexions 4, 6 and a float valve 11, 16 for controlling the discharge opening 15. By adjusting the liquid level in the chamber 7 the device can be adjusted for pressures above, below, or at atmospheric pressure. The valve shown comprises a ball valve 16 carried by a stem 17 in the stopper 18 of the float 11, a similar stem being guided in the discharge pipe 14. The two chambers 7, 9 may be arranged one within the other, as shown, or they may be. separately disposed with a fluid connexion between them.
