Abstract

1431671 Valves H RICKENBACH 19 March 1973 [17 March 1972 5 March 1973] 13020/73 Heading F2V [Also in Divisions F3-F4] A space heating and ventilating apparatus comprises a radiator 8 spaced from a wall 1 of a room to be heated to define an air heating space 4 and an air inlet chamber 7 in a wall recess which extends the width of the space 4 and is separated therefrom by a sound damping wall 12<SP>1</SP>, wherein the chamber 7 communicates with the base of the space 4 via an opening 6, is supplied with air through a duct 15 and contains an acoustic filter 12. In Fig. 1, the base of the space 4 may be closed or may include a slot 18 for induction of secondary room air. The rear surface of the radiator includes heat exchange fins 10. The duct 15 includes a perforate slide 16 which may be replaced by an unperforated slide when the room is to be cleaned. An air outlet grille includes plane and curved vanes 11 (11<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2). The wall 12<SP>1</SP> may include a skin of heat-reflective aluminium foil. In Fig. 3, the air flow rate from duct 15 is controlled by a hit-and-miss damper comprising a fixed perforate body 28 closed at its upper end by a plate 33 and a perforate sleeve 30 slidably mounted on body 28. The sleeve 30 is displaceable by rotation of discs 31 which are fixed eccentrically on an axle 32 and seat in cylindrical mountings 37 fixed to sleeve 30. The axle 32 extends through sound insulating material 38 and is adjustable with a hexagon key after removal of a plug 39. Air flow through the opening 6 and an open lower end of the space 4 is controlled by a pivotally mounted flap 25 which includes an elastic seal 17. The water flow through radiator 8 is controlled by a thermostatically controlled valve.
