Abstract

1431090 Printing on pile fabrics GIRMESWERKE AG 4 April 1973 [18 April 1972 10 May 1972] 16131/73 Heading B6C In an apparatus and process for printing imitation animal hides varying amounts of colour material are printed on to the back of a pile material which is under tension and then pressed into the material by mechanical force. In one embodiment of the apparatus, Fig. 9, intaglio units 17, 18 print colour on to the back of the pile material 13 and a roller 19 presses it into the material. For printing on to the front or pile side of the material an offset band 12 is printed by an intaglio roller 14 and the pile material pressed on to it by roller 16. Instead of intaglio rollers screen printers may be used. The intaglio plates used, Fig. 2, comprise engravings of various depths between 0À5 and 1À5 mm to produce different depths of colour in the pile. Where the depth of a single engraving is insufficient a second and possibly third plate is used to apply colour to that part of the material. The intaglio units can be replaced by rotary screen printing units, Fig. 10 (not shown).
