Abstract

1,075,394. Printing apparatus. R. J. MAZURIER. Sept. 9, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1964], No. 36865/64. Heading B6C. In order to obtain optimum results in an offset printing press using any particular copy paper a sheet of the paper is first passed through an offset proof printing machine in which it receives a multiplicity of images each imprinted from an offset surface made of rubber of a density different from the others. By producing a number of such proof printed sheets and using a different ink for each it is possible to set up the offset press with an offset surface and ink to give satisfactory printing on the paper to be used. In the apparatus shown an ink reservoir 3 is reciprocated by endless screws 17 along a rubber roller 2 thereby evenly depositing ink thereon. The ink passes to a plate cylinder 7 via a heated copper roller 4 and a rubber roller 6. The plate cylinder carries eight bandlike etched printing surfaces each of which contacts a similar rubber bandlike surface on an offset cylinder 6, each of these offset surfaces being of rubber of a density different from the others. Each copy sheet to be proof printed is passed between the cylinder 6 and a pressure cylinder 10 the latter also comprising eight distinct cylindrical surfaces.
