Chain-strainers.-A device for drawing together the ends of motor-car and like driving-chains comprises a cast-metal frame a bearing a winding- drum c and an arm e which is inserted between the links of one end of the chain f. Passing from the drum round a link of the other end of the chain, and secured to the arm e, is a cable or chain g which, when the drum is revolved by a handle j, draws the ends of the chain together for coupling purposes. Backward movement of the drum is prevented by a ratchet i and pawl m that may be disengaged by means of a handle d.
