Lighting by electricity.-The batteries B, B<1> for supplying current to the head and rear electric lamps of a bicycle &c. are contained in a casing B<2> which is supported on the frame A of the bicycle and can be rotated about pivots N, N<1> to switch one or both lamps on and off. The casing B<2> is of metal and is closed by metal caps D, D<1> having insulating outer surfaces H, H<1>. Metal sockets E, E<1> are attached to but insulated from the caps D, D<1> and make contact with the terminals Q, Q<1> of the batteries. The other terminals of the batteries are in contact with the casing through a spring R. The leads W, W<1> from the head and rear lamps are connected to the pivots N, N<1> and to spring plunger contacts T, T' carried by insulating blocks L held in clips K attached to the bicycle frame A. The insulating surface H of the lower cap D is provided with two holes and a recess, the surface H<1> of the cap D<1> having a single hole. These holes allow the plungers T, T' to make contact with the metal caps D, D<1> when the casing B<2> is rotated and so complete the circuit through the lamps. The casing can be rotated to break the contact between the plunger T' and the casing and maintain the circuit through the head lamp only. Further rotation of the casing switches off both lamps the plunger T engaging in the recess in the cap D and preventing accidental displacement of the casing. The casing and batteries can be removed by depressing the cap D' against the action of the spring.
