Abstract

6408. Wolf, P. March 14. Battery lamps; holders, with switches. A miner's lamp is provided with a switching- device which temporarily places a resistance in the lamp circuit at the time of making and breaking the circuit, whereby sparking at the contacts and the consequent ignition of explosive gases are prevented. The switching- device may comprise a rotary plate a provided with a metal socket b for the lamp and with main and auxiliary contacts e, d, e, h. The main contacts are spaced by gaps f, k, from the auxiliary contacts e, h, and are connected thereto through resistances g, i. On rotating the plate a, the auxiliary contacts first come into contact with the terminals of the battery and establish the lamp circuit through the resistances. Upon further rotation, the main contacts engage the battery terminals and the resistance is cut out. The resistance is temporarily inserted upon switching-off in a similar manner.
