Abstract

232,701. Williams, F., and Dimmers, Ltd. Jan. 26, 1924. Lighting systems. - Dimming devices for motor vehicle lamps comprise as separate units a sectional resisitance mounted for protection in the bonnet of the car and a totally enclosed regulating switch mounted in an accessible position on the dash-board or steering wheel and electrically connected with the resistance for progressively cutting resistance in and out of the lamp circuit. The circuit arrangements are shown in Fig. 9. The resistance is of known form comprising graphite blocks insulated from a holder and having metal contact plates. The regulating switch, Fig. 6, consists of a base 22 with a number of contacts engaged step by step by a contact arm 26, the other end of which is bent into cylindrical form to constitute a bearing for a roller contact engaging a fixed plate contact which has recesses corresponding to the switching positions of the contact arm.
