Abstract

261,999. Moore, F. K. May 26, 1926. Lighting systems.-A three-position dashboard switch is arranged to fully illuminate both headlamps, to dim one of them only, or to extinguish both. The arrangement may be steadily modified to dim either the right or the left weadlamp. The system is applicable with a single source of electricity, Fig. 5, or two sources may be used one for each lamp, Fig. 6. The switch has five spring-pressed contacts 40 - - 44 mounted in its base and connected as shown in the figures referred to. A disc 3 carrying three insulated segments 24 - - 26 connected together by strips 32, 32 is rotated by an external handle 13 clockwise from the position illustrated to switch off the lamps and counterclockwise to dim the righthand lamp R by switching on a resistance 67. A compensating resistance 69 is simultaneously inserted in the circuit of the other lamp L in the arrangement according to Fig. 5. By changing over the resistances 67, 69 or the resistance 67 and connection 70 the left-hand lamp may be dimmed. The switch disc 3 carries a spring controller roller 48 engaging notches in a segment 53 on the casing to define the switching positions and a projection 58 from this segment engages a cut away portion 59 in the disc to limit its range of movement.
