Lighting systems. -In a modification of the headlightcontrolling apparatus described in the parent Specification, the fixed headlight is dimmed when the movable headlight is given a comparatively small angular movement, e.g. 10‹, and while its movement is restricted to a definite angular zone, e.g. 15‹, and means are provided so that the movable headlight may be given any angular movement, if desired, without dimming the stationary headlight. The circuits of the main lamp filaments 9, 12 and the auxiliary lamp filaments 10, 13 of the movable and stationary headlights may be arranged as shown in Fig. 4. The casing 8 of the movable headlight is electrically connected to the vehicle frame, while the casing 11 of the stationary headlight is electrically connected to the casing 8 or directly to the vehicle frame when contacts 24, 25 are closed so that both main lamp filaments are lit when the switch lever 15 engages a contact 17. When the contacts 24, 25 are broken owing to the movement of the movable headlight to the non-dazzle position. the circuit through the main lamp filament 12 of the stationary lamp is closed only through the filaments 12, 9 of the auxiliary lamps so that the main lamp filament 12 burns dim owing to the comparatively weak current passing through it. The movement of a switch lever 15 from the contact 17 to a contact 18 lights the auxiliary lamps and extinguishes the main lamps in the normal position of the headlights.
