Abstract

673,835. Lamp failure alarms and warning- devices. HOLLINS, J. R. March 14, 1949. No. 6952/49. Class 118 (ii). The condition of motor vehicle electric circuits such as the stop lamp 30 and direction signalling lamps 65, 70, is indicated by high resistance lamps 50, 75 and 80 respectively, connected in series therewith so that on closure of the ignition switch 20 sufficient current flows from battery 10 to illuminate the latter but not the former lamps. A switch 40 for the stop lamp 30 is connected across the ignition switch 20 and indicator lamp 50 so that on closure thereof the stop lamp lights and the indicator lamp is short-circuited and extinguished; a directional switch 55 is connected across indicator lamps 75 and 80 so as to extinguish in similar manner the relative pilot lamp when its associated signalling lamp is lit. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates an arrangement incorporating two sets of signalling lamps. Each indicator lamp and lighting switch is separately wired to the associated main lamp so that extinction of an indicator lamp on switching on its main lamp indicates that the whole switch circuit to the main lamp is in order. All the indicator lamps are preferably mounted on the directional switch assembly.
