Abstract

831,510. Vehicle flashing indicators; lamp failure alarms. C.A.V. Ltd. Nov. 27, 1957 [Dec. 6, 1956], No. 37297/56. Class 118 (2). A direction indicator of the flashing lamp type is provided with a warning light arranged to give an indication of lamp failure whether a trailer signalling lamps are connected or whether no trailer is being pulled. An electron magnetic detector 10 has two opposed windings 9, 11, the former carrying signal lamp current via a manual selector switch 8 to one each of lamps pairs 3 (on vehicle) and 4 (on trailer). The opposing winding 11 is connected through the trailer plug inserted in connector 7 so that half the effect of winding 9 is neutralized. If either the trailer or the vehicle selected signal lamps fail, detector 10 opens the circuit to a warning lamp 13. When no trailer is connected winding 11 is inoperative. The flasher employs opposed windings 15, 14 which close contacts 17, 18 also opening contact 19 when the capacitor 16 is fully charged. The capacitor discharges and the cycle repeats.
