Abstract

1428154 Treating slags CALUMITE CO 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42637/73 Headings C1K C1A and C1M Slag, -12 U.S. mesh size, is heated to at least 400‹ F. but below fusion in the presence of air and whilst being agitated to reduce its sulphur content, preferably to below 0À3%. Its iron content can also be reduced by simultaneously or successively adding a chlorine liberating compound. The product can be mixed with glass forming materials or sand with either recycled glass or gypsum to give a flint glass. The SO 2 formed in producing the slag can be introduced into the glass melt during glass making.
