Abstract
1,171,866. Refining steel; degassing. EISENWERK-GESELLSCHAFT MAXIMILIANSHUTTE m.b.H. Jan. 19, 1968 [Feb. 14, 1967], No.3038/68. Heading C7D. Steel of very low carbon content is produced by vacuum degassing a melt containing substantially 0À04% of carbon and 0À06 to 0À08% of oxygen in the presence of granulated refractory of grain size 2 mm. to 1 cm., to give a final carbon content of substantially 0À005%. The preferred refractory material is lime, but limestone and clay have also been used.
