Abstract
1,230,810. Desulphurizing iron. KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE HOOGOVENS EN STAALFABRIEKEN N.V. Dec.20, 1968 [Dec.29, 1967], No.60611/68. Heading C7D. A desulphurizing composition for treating iron melts consists of a calcium cyanamide product and 10-60% of a product prepared from the calcium cyanamide. The calcium cyanamide product is defined as containing at least 60% of calcium cyanamide, 10-12% of carbon, calcium oxide at least 15% and calcium carbonate. The second product is prepared by hydrolysis of calcium cyanamide product and passing CO 2 through the resulting solution. The material precipitated which consists of finely divided calcium carbonate and about 10% of carbon is the product referred to.
